Basics of Endeca

Endeca Architecture:

1.    Endeca ITL (information transformation layer) comprises of FORGE and DGIDX (indexer) processes. CAS may be used for certain types of data sources
2.    CAS includes
    •    Endeca web crawler
    •    Endeca CAS
3.    FORGE is the first endeca process that is used in building index files from the given source data. Using set of configuration files FORGE converts source     data to Endeca data and configuration info.
4.    DGIDX takes output from FORGE and compiles indices to be used by MDEX engine
5.    DGRAPH is server name of MDEX that accepts query request and returns response. It loads index files generated by Dgidx into memory at process startup.
6.    EAC is the controller process to help manage entire endeca solution. Is useful for starting and stopping processes
7.    Endeca records are the elements of data set that users navigate or search for. A single endeca record corresponds to any number of source records.
8.    Dimensions are logical categories that make it possible to organize endeca records into a hierarchical structure that customers can search for .
